Psalms 121:1-2 “I lift up my eyes to the mountains— where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
I love that verse…it is comforting and reminds me to “LOOK UP”! Just looking up to the sky – bursting with white clouds and sun rays is a visual representation of God’s masterful hand. The golden glow of the sun setting, the majestic peaks of light as the sun rises, the fullness of the moon on a starry night – those simple visual pleasures that we at times take for granted, reminds me to “LOOK UP”! Remember that the God who placed the stars one by one in the sky, created an amazing system that runs in perfect timing: sun rises, sun sets, and moon appears.
The same God who created this schedule of perfection is the same God who has all my life’s twist and turns in his hand. There is not one detour in my life’s journey that has been a surprise to God. (Surprise to me... but not God!) Here is the reality; those same skies can fill up with heavy clouds, dark grey shades that appear visually threatening with signs and sounds of heavy winds and rains coming our way. When we see a sky like this – we immediately think about reaching our destination quickly and seeking refuge from the outside elements.
No one voluntarily wants to get caught up in a storm without any protection. But one cannot always determine a path’s route – there may not be that rest stop you want so badly so you can’t run away and avoid that storm. You may just have to get drenched in the rain. Yup your hair is going to flop, your clothes are going to stick, your shoes are going to squish and your mascara is going to run big time! A marvelous work of raccoon art gone bad!
Despite how much we can plan, we cannot avoid experiencing a storm. Physically it will happen if not once even several times in one’s lifetime. The same applies to this road called life. The storms are a comin’ but it’s the one who I can "LOOK UP” to for help during those dark and stormy times that is the key.
When panic sets in and you can actually hear your heart go “crack”, know that your help comes from the Lord the maker of the heavens and the earth. Our fear and pain pales in comparison to God’s awesomeness. I have experienced suffocating moments of great distress in the past few years. I have felt lost beyond my human capability to understand. But I know that God is there – as he is there with you right now wherever you are in that road called life – no matter who has betrayed you, stiffed you, lied to you or ignored you!
Psalm 46:1-2 "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea."
“LOOK UP” and know that God is your refuge and strength. He is there with you beyond anything you can see, taste or feel. Next time you feel the warm ray of the sun or a few sprinkle of rain drops “LOOK UP” because God is there with you today and forever more. I also would advise on purchasing “waterproof” mascara on your next shopping trip! :-)
