Hey Everybody! A Little about me...

As a sociologist teaching issues related to gender and intimate relationships, I read the statistics and knew the facts about the cultural and social issues impacting women’s lives today. Talking about things from a neutral academic perspective is very different from touching and impacting lives with truths and the tools required to make a positive change…I got tired of just teaching facts, numbers, statistics and theoretical constructs and wanted to contribute to empowering and equipping women to make changes in their lives as well as in the lives of other women within their community.  I suppose that my inspiration for my first book: "Fearfully Female and Wonderfully woman: becoming all that God created",  came from my classroom within the university setting along with counseling and sharing with women within settings such as Bible Studies, community groups and volunteer positions. I began to realize just how “lost” or unsure women within our society were becoming. For all our talk about having come a long way I was hearing story after story of young women struggling to find true identity and a balanced sense of self. The stories never got old but they did become repetitive. I wanted to help women change the story. That meant that I could no longer remain neutral or unbiased.  Like it or not, all paths do not lead to truth- some are dead ends. Likewise, all choices are not the best choices and all lifestyles do not lead to happiness. I wanted to be able to speak the whole truth and that meant leaving the academic arena.

FFWW was birthed out of my desire to provide women with what I believe to be life-changing truth in a female voice using female illustrations and examples drawn from female lives. It is a careful blending of lessons learned talking to women, raising three daughters and living as a woman myself. I blend my background as a sociologist with scriptural truths in what I hope is an easy to grasp, sometimes humorous and non-threatening way. I was amazed at the life lessons that can be learned from a tube of pink lipstick or a pair of shoes. God was so good to provide me with examples and lessons from the female perspective. It was fun to see what He would come up with next as we wrote together.

My desire is for women to turn down all the cultural messages about who and what they should be in order to hear the voice of their creator telling them who they already are. I believe that is the only way we can sincerely be happy in our own skin and live our lives to their greatest fulfillment and potential. There are simply too many half-truths and out and out lies out there. Women are weighed down with the weight of too many demands and too many restrictions.

The first book was actually a pleasure to write and is the foundation for the speaking, writing and teaching ministry that has been birthed. BECOMINGALLGODCREATED is  totally devoted to empowering women to be all that God desires for them. I am working on a leader’s guide for this book and writing a second book as we speak. I hope to continue to write, to speak and to share as the Lord leads.
