In today's reading Korah had to learn the hard way not to oppose God. Due to his insolence and self-important attitude, he and his entire household died. Even those who followed after him in opposition to Moses (250 men in all) died by the hand of the Lord.

You don't mess with God's leaders.

But, does this same principle apply for the leaders in our churches today? Well, you may say it's different today. We can't tell if God has appointed our leaders or not. After all, not one of them has spoken to God like Moses. That's true, but are you saying that you didn't pray over who your leaders would be? In my church we are praying right now over an interim pastor while we search for a full-time one. We are asking God to show us if the interim pastor should lead us until we can find another. God is going to honour that prayer, by telling us yes or no. So, God ultimately does put our leadership in charge and if we don't respect and submit to them we are basically saying to God, "I don't trust you and I don't believe you are in control."

Problems occur in every church. We are infallible people. More times than not however, those complaining may not recognize that their own actions or inaction are part of the problem. In my church, the problem is the music. It's too loud. The simple solution would be to turn the music down. Yet things have gotten so out of control many are leaving or arriving late to avoid the worship times. Or as some have chosen to do, they wear earplugs to the service.

Yes. It is that loud.

Complaining about it however, hasn't helped the situation and in fact has fallen on deaf ears (no pun intended). Complainers are often zoned out and not heard anymore. I know this for a fact, because I have a hard time with this sin at home and I have to give this disgusting part of myself over to God daily, otherwise discouraging words will pop out of my mouth, bothering everyone who hears them and especially bothering the Father.

Our leaders were put there by God and we need to pray that the leadership will be sensitive and that God will lead their hearts and minds in making the right decisions for the entire church body. Then all we have to do is sit back and trust God.

Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities,
to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good,
to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate,
and to show true humility toward all men.
